How to Detach a Shift Cable on Dodge Challenger?

Be sure to put the shift lever into PARK and lift the car before you remove the shift cable. Remove the eyelet at the shift lever on the transmission and pull the cable out of its place in the mounting bracket. Place the vehicle on a low jack stand and, if you need to, take out the floor console to approach the shift cables. If the removal of the gearshift and park lock cables requires it, undo the hidden bolts and lift off the metal shield safely. Then, pull the gearshift cable from the pin on the shift lever and pluck out the retainer from the notch in the shifter assembly. From inside the hood, unscrew the shift cable grommet fixed to the dash panel and untangle the gearshift cable from beneath the vehicle.

Guide the gearshift cable into the dash panel through the opening at the base of the center console and then place the plastic connector or grommet, inside the hole. Bolt the cable into the bracket in the steering column so the ears are locked and connect the cable's eyelet onto the shift lever ball stud. Make sure the car is raised and place the manual shift in the PARK position. After that, switch the prop shaft till you see the gear shift indication which means the car is in PARK. Feed the cable through the shift cable mounting bracket and snap both the cable retaining ears into it and the shift cable ball socket onto the end of the manual shift lever. Pull the vehicle down and press the locking tab on the adjustment cable down to lock it in place. Ensure the transmission range sensor is operating fine and patch up the gearshift cable and BTSI as required.
