Before installing the driver air bag, remove the negative battery cable, wait two minutes for the system capacitor to drain and disable the SRS. Be sure there isn't anything foreign in the Driver air bag (DAB) or caught between the cushion and trim cover, as this could result in injuries for occupants in case of deployment. Do not paint the driver air bag's trim cover, because fresh air bags are supplied with their own original trim covers and painting may change the material's reaction to deploying. In case the air bag fails to work, but does not deploy, follow the procedures listed for non-deployed supplemental restraints. Should the driver air bag go off during a crash, always follow the correct removal instructions after it has deployed. Place the driver air bag by the steering wheel to resume the electricity connections on its backside. Open the air bag inflator connector receptacle, slide in the two Clock Spring driver pigtail wire connectors straight and press the locks together, so the keys and colors of all connectors are matched properly. Check that you do not bend the Clock Spring pigtail wires as you put the driver air bag into the steering wheel. Insert the end of the lower air bag wire loop onto the end of the steering wheel armature's six o'clock hook. Slide the upper part of the air bag up and push the retainer wires firmly down into the upper hooks in the steering wheel armature. Don't link the battery negative cable yet, as it's important to conduct the SRS verification test after finishing work on the SRS.
