Service of the air bag Control Module begins by first removing and disconnecting the red negative battery cable for two minutes to let the module's capacitor discharge. If your car has a manual transmission, unbolt the floor console from the top of the floor panel transmission tunnel; if it is automatic, unbolt the air bag sensor grill cover (ACM) from the center of the instrument panel. Open the back of the instrument panel under the center stack support bracket, get the release tab, push it in and raise the lever to unplug both connectors. About 7 millimeters, loosen the screw attaching the right side of the module to the bracket. When that's done, remove the two screws that hold the left side of the module. Move the hysteresis module so the locating pin leaves the mounting bracket and the slotted hole comes clear of the right mounting screw. Uninstall the module from the left part of the floor panel transmission tunnel. Put the module on the left of the floor panel, so that you can see the forward arrow on the module label. Slide the module to the right, so the slotted hole comes under the screw hole and fit the locating pin into the bracket. Secure the left mounting flanges by tightening their two screws to 12 N.m and finish by tightening the screw on the right to the same strength. Connect again the two wire harnesses and check that the clips engage completely. For automatic transmission, install the ACM cover back and for manual transmission, install the floor console in place. Do not plug in the negative battery cable until the supplemental restraint system verification process is finished following any repair on the system.
