Take the battery negative cable off the car and then sit it aside for two minutes so the air bag system can discharge before you work on the combination switch. Lift off the steering column opening cover that is located on the instrument panel at the start. Pull the tilt steering column knob straight rearward, taking care not to drop it, if you have one. From below the steering column, take out the two screws securing the top part of the fairing to the bottom piece, then gently push in the top piece on each side until the snaps break free. Take apart the upper cover, remove one center screw joining the lower shroud to the column lock housing and lift away the lower shroud. Break the connection at the wire harness plug for the multi-function switch and then release the two screws that join it to the housing. Push the multi-function switch control stalk centered toward the outboard side to deactivate it. To install, put the multi-function switch into the mounting housing and hold it there with the screws tightened to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). Attach the instrument panel wire harness connector again, put the lower shroud onto the steering column and screw it on using 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.) of torque. Align the upper shroud so it is lined up with the tailgate, push down if you have a gap hider, place the shroud's snap features properly and hand press it to fix it in place. Secure the top shroud to the bottom shroud with the two supplied screws up to 2 Nm (20 in. lbs.). If the steering column can tilt, turn the knob so it is lined up with the lever and then press the knob against the lever strongly. Once done, put the steering column opening cover back and reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
