How to Remove and Replace a Load-Leveling Shock Absorber on Chrysler 300?

Before changing the load-leveling shock absorber, support the car then take off its rear wheels and tires and the mounting nuts. Before servicing the left shock absorber, take out the fuel filler tube. Stability while working under the rear suspension is achieved by positioning extra jack stands under the front part of the engine cradle. For dual exhaust systems or for work on the right of a single exhaust system, use an under-hoist utility jack or stand under the muffler and disconnect the exhaust isolators from the muffler and resonator hangers before lowering the exhaust to sit on the jack or stand. After that, place a utility jack under the center of the rear axle differential, raise it to press against the differential and hold the jack without adjusting the stabilizer bar. Loosen and remove the upper screws on the shock and after that, remove the lower bolt and nut. Should your vehicle use AWD, place the spacers back between the crossmember mounts and the inside of the body after taking out the bolts. It is important to keep the crossmember mounting bolts from the opposite side of the car unloosened or unscrewed, as putting the vehicle back together will require adjustment to the rear wheels. Raise the vehicle, then take out the shock absorber nut and bolt (1) from the lower arm to pull the shock out from underneath the car. Take out anything that securely holds the shock absorber and check every attachment piece for cracks or other signs of damage. Set the hardwear and bushings on the bottom of the mount and on the shock absorber's top stud. Line up the top first and then set the lower control arm mounting bracket onto the shock absorber when you put it into the vehicle. Assemble the shock absorber (1) on the lower bolt and nut of the control arm and tighten it to 55 Nm (41 ft. lbs.). Drop the vehicle slowly as you direct the upper piece of the shock through the mounting hole, then place the rubber mount and washer over the shock absorber stud. Install the upper mounting nut after that, tightening it to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.), lower the car and check its alignment.
